Durgi Bhumij Foundation
Durgi Bhumij Foundation is a registered non-profit organization established on 20 October 2017 and registered under the Societies Registration Act (Registration No. RS/UDAL/262/F/05 of 2018-2019). Based in Udalguri District of Assam, the Foundation is committed to improving the quality of life of marginalized communities while conserving the rich natural heritage of Bodoland and Northeast India.
Since its inception, the Foundation has been working across diverse sectors including education, health and sanitation, biodiversity conservation, community development, environmental education, ecotourism promotion, and sustainable livelihood enhancement. Our approach combines community participation, scientific knowledge, and sustainable development practices to create lasting positive impacts.
We believe that social progress and environmental conservation are inseparable. Therefore, we work closely with local communities, educational institutions, government agencies, conservation organizations, and development partners to address social challenges while safeguarding natural resources for future generations.
Through initiatives such as wildlife conservation programmes, human-elephant conflict mitigation, plantation drives, environmental awareness campaigns, community empowerment activities, and educational support programmes, we strive to build resilient communities that live in harmony with nature.
The Foundation also manages Millennium Academy, an Assamese-medium school serving more than 400 students from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds, reaffirming our commitment to quality education and youth development.
Over the years, Durgi Bhumij Foundation has actively collaborated with various organizations and institutions in organizing conservation events, research initiatives, ecotourism development programmes, and community outreach activities. Notably, the Foundation has supported and partnered in organizing the Northeast Butterfly Meet, one of the most significant butterfly conservation and citizen science events in Northeast India.
Guided by the principles of inclusiveness, sustainability, and community participation, Durgi Bhumij Foundation continues to work towards creating a socially empowered, environmentally conscious, and economically sustainable society where people and nature thrive together.
